| Driving Impressions |
|
| Its fun to drive with various control mechanisms |
|
|
The Grand Prix is offered in a standard FWD layout, which puts the engine weight directly over the driven wheels, thereby improving traction on slippery or snow-packed roads.
It offers a choice of three engines: 3.6L V-6, 3.8L V-6 Supercharged, and 5.3L V-8, which produces 200 hp, 260 hp, and 303 hp respectively. The 3.8L Supercharged V-6 offers sharp responses. The 5.3L V-8 offers terrific acceleration. It can touch a speed of 0-60 miles per hour in a mere 5.7 seconds. The 3.8L V-6 Supercharged and the 5.3L V-8 are equipped with drive-by-wire electronic throttle control (ETC), which has 19 discrete response "maps" that sense the driving situation and deliver the appropriate engine response.
The Sedan and GT are maneuvered by a power rack-and-pinion steering, while the GXP is steered by a power rack-and-pinion steering with Magnasteer II variable assist, which matches the steering assist to the car’s speed, while a four-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) provides additional control on uneven surfaces and in unpleasant weather.
The Sedan and GT ride on a 4-wheel independent suspension with WideTrack system. The WideTrack handling system features six sophisticated components working in tandem to blend dynamic handling with superb control. Four-wheel independent suspension offers a smoother, more responsive ride. Direct-acting stabilizer bars in both front and rear deliver a flatter ride while taking sharp curves.
The GXP comes with a performance tuned, 4-wheel independent suspension, which has new spring rates, larger anti-roll bars, and premium monotube Bilstein gas shocks. This suspension system delivers a smooth and controlled ride.
The Sedan is equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), while the GT and GXP feature 4-wheel anti-lock, 4-wheel disc brakes with EBD, which are optional on the Sedan. These brakes give a smooth, progressive pedal feel, even when pressed hard.
The GXP also comes with StabiliTrak Sport, a performance-tuned vehicle stability enhancement system. It compares steering inputs to vehicle response and selectively activates critical control inputs to help the driver stay on track.
The Sedan comes with the option of a powertrain-modulated enhanced traction system (ETS), while the GT and GXP are equipped with powertrain and brake-modulated full function traction control
