| Driving Impressions |
| It is a pleasure behind the wheel |
The 3500 is available in a standard 2WD and optional AWD layout. The AWD gives enhanced traction to the 3500 wheels on slippery terrains.
The 3500 is powered by a Vortec 6.0-liter V8 engine, which delivers an impressive 353 horsepower and decent acceleration for driving on all kinds of roads. It is mated to a responsive electronically-controlled, heavy-duty, 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and tow/haul mode. The tow/haul mode reduces shift busyness while towing or hauling and provides auto grade braking. The optional Duramax 6.6-liter Turbo Diesel V-8 engine, which issues 365 horsepower and 660 lb-ft. of torque, offers a sprightly performance and is better-suited to towing or hauling jobs as compared to the 6.0L V-8.
The 3500 is navigated by a recirculating ball power steering, which gives direct and prompt responses. It rides on an independent front suspension, including torsion bars, while the rear suspension consists of 3-stage springs. This supple suspension is capable of swallowing bumps on roads and offers confident handling with minimum body-roll during turning.
Sharp 4-wheel anti-lock, 4-wheel disc brakes bring the 3500 to a quick halt at short distances. It is also available with the option of heavy-duty automatic locking rear differential, which evenly distributes power to both rear wheels in slippery conditions. At lower speeds, the differential automatically detects wheel spin, locks the rear axle, and directs torque to the rear wheel with more traction.
With a turning diameter of more than 45 feet, you might find it difficult to park or maneuver the 3500 in tight spots. But otherwise, it offers responsive handling and a smooth, quiet ride. |
