| Driving Impressions |
|
| Easy to drive and highly responsive |
|
| The Silverado 3500 is powered by a standard Vortec 6.0L V8 engine, which delivers 300 horsepower and decent force as well as acceleration for in-city as well as highway driving. The heavy-duty 5-speed manual transmission, standard on WT, 1LS, and 1LT models with Vortec 6.0L engine, shifts smoothly. However, the heavy-duty Hydra-Matic 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, standard on 2LT and 3LT models, is more responsive.
Riding on a Z85 Handling/Trailering suspension, the Silverado 3500 absorbs the impact of bad and bumpy roads and offers an extremely smooth ride.
All Silverado Classic models are equipped with standard four-wheel anti-lock brakes with Dynamic Rear Proportioning, which regulates front and rear brake pressure to optimize performance under varying load conditions.
All Single-Rear-Wheel models are available with the option of an automatic locking rear differential. It enhances traction at lower speeds on snow, mud, and ice. If one of the rear wheels has traction while the other does not, the locking rear axle automatically directs power to the wheel with grip to maneuver the vehicle.
The 2WD and 4WD models come with a ground clearance of 9.1 and 10.6 inches respectively. Such a high ground clearance allows the Silverado 3500 to take on bumpy roads with élan and ease. With all these mechanical features, the Silverado 3500 offers a responsive steering, a smooth ride, and firm handling.
